Kinematics of Linear Motion

Kinematics of Linear Motion, Basic understanding the concepts of Linear motion.

Course Description

Mechanics gets classified into statics and dynamics. Dynamics may be broken down into kinematics and kinetics. Kinematics deal with displacement, velocities and accelerations without concern for the forces involved. Kinetics deal with the forces and moments involved in making the body move along with the measurement of various parameters describing the motion. Kinematics is included which studies the motion without considering the forces which caused the motion. In this course, learner will learn the basics of Kinematics of linear motion (i.e. the motion of the object in a straight line), the difference between uniform accelerated motion and variable accelerated motion, motion under gravity in which Weight is a force and is measured in Newtons or kg m/s/s . Mass is measured in kilograms (kg) and gravity is an acceleration (m/s/s). For objects reasonably close to the Earth’s surface, gravity is approximated as 9.8 m/s/s (in some questions it may say use g=10 m/s/s). In the absence of air resistance, like in a vacuum, all objects will fall to the ground at the same rate regardless of their mass, shape and size and the problems associated with each term. Also at the last, motion diagrams are included for better graphical understanding of the terminologies. Learner is encouraged to go through the terms for better understanding of the basic concepts.
