Advanced Qualitative Research: From Questions to Trustworthy, Design, analyze, and defend ethical qualitative studies using doctoral-level research principles and applied examples..

Course Description

This course contains the use of artificial intelligence.

Strong qualitative research requires more than interviews, quotations, and themes. It requires a coherent and traceable chain connecting the research problem, purpose, question, methodology, participants, evidence, analysis, findings, and ethical boundaries of the study.

Advanced Qualitative Research: From Questions to Trustworthy Findings provides a practical, doctoral-level framework for building that chain. The course explains complex methodological decisions clearly while preserving the rigor expected in dissertations, capstones, and applied research projects.

Across five focused lectures, students follow one unfolding healthcare collaboration case from initial curiosity to a defensible qualitative study. The case demonstrates how methodological choices influence the credibility and usefulness of the final findings.

Students first learn how to distinguish a broad topic from a researchable problem, locate and defend a meaningful knowledge gap, and align the problem, purpose, and research question. The course then compares major qualitative approaches, including generic qualitative inquiry, case study, phenomenology, grounded theory, narrative inquiry, and ethnography.

The course also examines purposeful sampling, ethical recruitment, interviews, observations, documents, evidence sufficiency, transcript verification, coding, category development, theme construction, negative-case analysis, and the chain of evidence connecting participant accounts to written findings.

The final lecture brings credibility, transferability, dependability, confirmability, reflexivity, confidentiality, informed consent, and deductive disclosure together into one standard for a trustworthy and ethically responsible study.

This course is designed for doctoral and graduate students, emerging scholars, faculty members, organizational researchers, consultants, and professionals who want to conduct or evaluate qualitative research with greater confidence. No specialized software is required.

By the end of the course, students will be able to explain not only what methodological decisions they made, but why those decisions fit the study and how the resulting findings can be responsibly defended.
