My name is Audri Yoakum and I am a third year student in the entry level occupational therapy doctoral program at Drake University located in Des Moines, Iowa. I have completed my doctoral capstone at the Open Doors Organization located in Rosemont, Illinois. I have created my capstone experience project with Udemy focusing on accessibility and universal design for individuals with disabilities in travel and tourism.
This presentation will provide insight and understanding on the world of accessibility in terms of travel and tourism. I have spent 14 weeks working alongside the Open Doors Organization and their relevant stakeholders to increase accessibility with airlines, airports, tourism businesses, websites, etc. The major projects that I have worked on during my time in Illinois have included creation of an Accessible Workplace Handbook for Alaska Airlines as well as providing training to AmTrak employees on ADA standards and disability awareness. This Udemy course will display the various projects that I have created or participated in. By the end of this course it is my goal that each viewer is able to understand three different objectives listed below.
Objective 1: Develop an understanding for the importance of occupational therapy in accessibility in travel and tourism.
Objective 2: Identify barriers that individuals with a disability face when traveling.
Objective 3: Describe the purpose of the Open Doors Organization.
